Why? Because YouTube is the largest video streaming platform in the world and is the most popular search engine. Where users are already looking for professional guidance and educational content.
One third of Internet users watch tutorials or videos played weekly, and most of them do so on YouTube.
By creating free YouTube content for your audience. You can verify your authority and build a high-quality version of your paid services and products. In other words, you can make money with YouTube.
But to do that, you need to start a YouTube channel first.
In this article, I will not only tell you how to start a YouTube channel properly but also share proven strategies to help you grow your subscriber base.
Let’s immerse ourselves.
How YouTube Helps You Sell Your Technology
Many creators and professionals use YouTube to grow their subscriber domain and generate leads for their top tickets.
For example, Backlinko Brain Dean has a premium SEO Course which he opens once a year. But before launching the course, Brain, who is already a promoter in the SEO niche. Decided to start a YouTube channel and publish a ton of free content on it.
His videos helped him develop authority and gave his opportunities a vision of the quality of the content of his core subject.
It is an old leadership strategy that works across the industry.
Here is another example from a different niche.
Tiago Forte, production co-ordinator, has an active YouTube channel with nearly 20 thousand subscribers. He regularly publishes free content on a variety of production-related topics and uses them to produce a track record for his top ticket. “Building a Second Brain,” priced at $ 6000.
Why is YouTube such a great platform for tracking your online studies?
Because it allows your prospects to see your work in action and evaluate the value of your content before you sign up for a premium course.
Also, with the emergence of regular videos, you quickly build a connection with your audience. Which helps persuade them to buy your lesson.
This is why a popular and popular YouTube channel can be your most important source of revenue and customers (if you are always working to grow it.)
5 Steps to Start a YouTube Channel From scratch
Starting a YouTube channel does not include rocket science. You can easily do it in 5-10 minutes.
However, starting a YouTube channel properly requires more planning and thinking.
You need to think carefully about starting a YouTube channel and think about its long-term goals. Because sometimes, creating your own YouTube channel without considering your topics, audience, and long-term goals can cause problems over time.
So, here’s my step-by-step process for starting a YouTube channel.
Select YouTube Niche
There are over 40 million active YouTube channels currently available. But more than 80% of them have less than 1000 subscribers.
So, one thing is clear: Starting a YouTube channel will not automatically attract subscribers.
If you want to start a YouTube channel that grows to 1K, 100K, or a million subscribers, you need to set it up differently from the beginning.
The YouTube channel layout is similar to a brand stand.
You need to appeal to specific audiences instead of pointing out all the topics under the sun.
In other words, you need to choose a niche for YouTube.
As someone who is visiting the Learning Revolution, there is a good chance that you are already an expert in the area. Therefore, your task is much easier if you properly adjust your YouTube niche selection.
Here are some things to keep in mind when setting up your channel.
Topics
Being an expert somewhere is great, but if you don’t have enough people searching for you on YouTube, you won’t be able to grow your channel.
How do you know if a title is needed? Just search YouTube and see if there are any popular channels and videos in that niche.
For example, I have searched for “dog training” on YouTube, and it is clear from the results that there is a great need for this topic.
The depth of your niche is another thing to consider.
Do you have enough articles to add to your niche? Or will you run out of ideas after 10-15 videos? To avoid this problem, avoid using over-niching.
For example, if you are a real estate expert, create a channel for real estate investment tips in the USA instead of real estate investment in Miami or New York.
Make sure there are enough topics linked to your niche to keep you busy for years.
Viewers’ Needs
When choosing your niche, research your audience needs to understand what they want from you. This not only helps you plan your YouTube content in advance but also helps you evaluate your adherence to the topic and decide whether you can create important content for your audience.
YouTube has a free audience research tool called Find My Audience.
Use this tool to find key audience groups for your niche and identify their main questions.
For example, I searched for the “Health and Fitness” niche, and here are some of the major interests of the audience and groups I have shown to My Audience.
Also, it has given me a list of the most popular channels in that niche that I can continuously explore to understand my target audience.
Video Types
This point is very closely related to the last, but I want to discuss it separately because of its importance.
The type of video your audience chooses to watch plays a major role in the growth of your channel. It will also help you decide which niche you want to include.
For example, there are areas such as production, health tips, and even recipes, where you do not have to deal with the camera.
Here is a recipe channel that usually gets over a million views per video but shows no one.
Such niches are ideal if you are shy with the camera.
But in most places, you should always be in front of the camera.
Similarly, in niches like DIY or travel, you need to show how things are done instead of just talking about them. Naturally, they require higher budgets and more effort in creating videos.
So before choosing a niche, make sure you understand the type of videos you need to create in order to stand out. If not, you can start a YouTube channel, but you may have to work hard to get the pull.
Opportunities to make money
There are many ways to make money on YouTube. But the most popular methods are advertising and related marketing.
Even if your intention to start a YouTube channel is not to make money from it, you should still carefully consider the potential for monetizing a niche.
Why? Because a YouTube niche with no advertisers or related products strongly indicates that the average user in that niche does not spend money on online products.
This ultimately hurts your chances of selling your products and services again.
Create a New YouTube Channel
Once you have chosen your niche, it is time to start your YouTube channel.
Go to YouTube.com and click Sign In.
You need a Google Account to start a YouTube channel. If you already have it, sign in using your personal information. If not, create a new account.
After logging in, click the Account icon and select Create Channel from the menu.
This leads you to the first step in the process of creating your YouTube channel, where you have to choose your channel name and icon.
If you want to make a name for yourself as a creator and expert (which I recommend), use your name on your channel.
This is what most creators and professionals do because they are easy to remember for your audience and allow them to connect with you quickly.
Use Channel Art to Make a Strong Appearance
The image of your YouTube channel title plays an important role in making its mark and helps you highlight its central theme.
The headline image of Brian Dean’s YouTube channel is a good example.
You can use this space to share any other important message with your audience. For example, Gary Vaynerchuk used a photo on his head to share his video program.
Also, if you see it in the corner of this image, you can also add links to your website and social media profiles. Make sure they are visible to your audience and do not easily interfere with your title image.
The recommended size of your YouTube title image is 2560 x 1440 px. If your channel art is of different sizes, it may not be visible on other devices.
Build Authority With Your Channel Information
Many content creators ignore the About section of their YouTube channel or do not think enough about it.
Great mistake.
Your channel description is ready to introduce / advertise your product and share the reasons why people should watch your content.
Invest in a video trailer channel
You may not be able to create a video trailer when you start your channel, but you should have it in your plans.
As the name implies, a video trailer is a short cinematic video of what your channel has to offer. It is an excellent resource for anyone visiting your channel for the first time.
And it’s a great opportunity to register people on your email list or other action call you want to promote.
How to Enhance Your YouTube Channel | 9 Steps to Success
Now that you have created your YouTube channel, let’s talk about how you can quickly grow it into 1K, 10K, or 100K subscribers.
But before we dive in, let me say this.
You do not need a million or 10K subscribers to generate leads for your business. If you create content regularly, you will reach 50K or 100K subscribers in a few years.
But even with just a few thousand subscribers, you can still earn lots of revenue on YouTube every month, as long as you create high quality content and promote your intended audience.
Here are a few ways you can do that.
Invest in Your Video Quality
If you want to generate leads with your content and grow your YouTube channel, you need to generate HD videos by investing in the right video camera and other necessary tools.
Your video image quality not only makes you look professional but also has a direct impact on your video’s visibility in YouTube search results.
According to a survey, 68.7% of all YouTube homepage videos are in HD (720P or 1080p).
You can create 1080p videos with many new smartphones these days. But I would recommend that you get a professional video camera, microphone, and lighting equipment to give your videos a cleaner and more polished look.
Not sure what material to buy for your videos? I have written all my recommendations in this article.
Do a YouTube keyword research
YouTube is the second most popular search engine in the world after Google Search.
Once you start a YouTube channel, a big part of promoting your videos on YouTube goes down to making them the right keywords.
How do you do YouTube keyword research?
Start by including a few seed keywords in a YouTube search that explains your niche. For example, if you are online marketing niche, other keywords for your seed could be SEO, content marketing, social media marketing, Facebook advertising, etc.
Link those keywords to each YouTube search without pressing the input key to see YouTube search suggestions.
SEO Prepare your YouTube videos
Like regular SEO, YouTube search optimization is often about using keywords that you point to in the right places to help YouTube determine its relevance to user search queries.
Here are three key areas in which you can use your keywords.
Title
Using a keyword to target a video title has a significant impact on search results. But you do not need to use the exact keyword.
Definition
There is no direct relationship between keyword usage in the video description and search standards. Instead, the definition of your video description is to entice search to click.
For example, which of the two definitions of video do you find most appealing?
Prepare YouTube videos for viewing time
YouTube wants people to stay in their place longer and use as much content as possible. Because if the user stays too long, the ads will be viewed / clicked.
This is why search algorithms improve videos with higher viewing time.
Watch time is the number of minutes the average user spends watching a video.
How do you increase the time you watch your video?
Create Long Videos: Instead of creating 5-6 minute videos, cover your topic in detail and aim for 15-20 minutes per video.
Ditch Long Intros: People do not have time for long, boring, formal introductions. If you want your viewers to keep watching, give them what they want right away.
Cut Fluff: Follow the video clip to cut out unnecessary “hmms and aaas”.
Don’t be Monotonous: People get bored quickly when you keep talking to them in the same frame. So make your videos more appealing by moving around, changing screens and backgrounds, sharing examples, asking questions, and generally maintaining high power in your voice.
Invest in Advanced Video Thumbnails
The video thumbnail is as important as its title.
An eye-catching thumbnail can help your video stand out even if it is low on the home page. In comparison, an icon that meets the environment is easier to ignore.
You can use two different types of YouTube video thumbnails – custom thumbnails and default frames.
Chat with other YouTube Creators
One of the smartest ways to grow your YouTube channel is to work with other creators and promoters in your niche.
But instead of targeting niche leaders, seek to engage with creators who have a larger audience than your channel.
When you chat with them on your channel. They will happily share it with their fans and audiences and help you grow your channel faster.
As an online course creator, you can also consult with various professionals. Who are successful in your niche and integrate various aspects of your field.
This helps you reach more audiences and establish your channel as your destination for authentic content.
Embed YouTube videos in Related Blog Posts
As a creator and expert, you should have an active blog where you publish SEO-optimized content on a variety of topics in your niche.
Embedding your YouTube videos in the right blog post allows for a clever way to reach. New audiences and expand your YouTube subscribers.
Ahrefs, a leading SEO tool, has used this strategy to drive traffic from its popular blog post to its YouTube channel.
