Pakistan : The President has stopped the practice of talking to the minister
Pakistan is using the ‘good offices’ of a prominent Pakistani American man to arrange a call. Between US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Imran Khan, sources told The Express Tribune.
While it is customary for newly-elected presidents to speak to the prime minister of Pakistan. Biden has abandoned the practice. As he has not spoken to Prime Minister Imran Khan. Despite being in office since January.
His predecessor Donald Trump. Who criticized Pakistan during the election campaign. Did not wait for his speech to then-Prime Minister Nakaz Sharif.
There is no clear explanation from the White House. As to why Biden is defending the call but observers believe this suggests that Pakistan. Perhaps, is no longer important to the US.
Frustration over the issue
Islamabad has expressed frustration over the issue but the late Prime Minister Imran. Tried to play the phone issue as in one of his recent negotiations he said the President might be busy.
Sources, however, said Pakistan was making efforts and was now using informal channels to reach President Biden.
To this end, Pakistan approached an ‘influential’ Pakistani American to arrange a call between the two leaders.
The powerful American American of Pakistan is a friend of President Biden. And Islamabad is trying to use his ‘good offices’. A spokesman for the Foreign Office did not respond until. The report was filed when contacted for a legal version of the matter.
In the past, Pakistan has used informal means to communicate with US presidents. During Trump’s time, Pakistan established direct contact with the US president through his son-in-law and the Saudi crown prince.
Prime Minister Imran’s view,
Senator Lindsey Graham, who was impressed with Prime Minister Imran’s view, also played a key role in establishing Trump-Imran’s contacts.
It was because of those channels that Trump and Imran met three times in a short time.
But the current administration under Biden is back to the traditional way of moving everything through established infrastructure.
Sources said feels direct communication at the leadership level. Between the two countries is important to share and understand each other’s point of view.
Biden is not new to Pakistan as he has extensive experience in working. With Islamabad for the first time. As head of the foreign relations committee who became vice president.
He was the first advocate of the Kerry-Lugar Law. Which tripled the social assistance in Pakistan.
Observers believe that Biden’s previous experience. With it is likely to apply to Islamabad’s reduction.
However, Pakistani policymakers consider relations with the US important. And that is why efforts remain with Washington.
UN General Assembly session
Last month on the sidelines of a UN General Assembly session. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held their first face-to-face meeting in New York.
Pakistan after the meeting issued a detailed statement. But Secretary Blinken made a small tweet that raised the speculation of the current US administration.
The meeting, however, was able to ease the ice as U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is due to visit here later this week. He will be the second top US official to visit Pakistan after a trip back by the CIA king.
Pakistan feels that despite the US collapse in Washington. And Islamabad they still need to work together for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan.
