Meta : Facebook recently announced plans to employ 10,000 people in the European Union to build a “metaverse”
Facebook changed the name of the parent company to Meta on Thursday. As the tech giant tries to transition into a social media platform. That has been ridiculed for its true vision for the future.
The new handle comes as the company struggles to fight one of its worst problems. And focuses on its “metaverse” Meta aspirations. Which can blur the lines between the physical world and the digital world.
Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp – used by billions worldwide – will keep their names. Under criticism by critics who have called for an attempt to disrupt the functionality of the platform.

“We’ve learned a lot about struggling with social and life issues under closed spheres. And now it’s time to take everything we’ve learned and help build the next chapter,” said CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the annual developers conference.
“I am proud to announce that from today, our company is now Meta. Our mission is still the same. It is about integrating people, our operating systems and their products, it has not changed,” he added.
Critics of the company have gone into renaming. With a group of activists calling themselves the Real Facebook Oversight Board claiming that the platform undermines democracy while spreading inappropriate information and hatred.
“The meaningless change of their name should not interfere with the actual investigation. Rules and administration required for Facebook ( Meta ) to respond,” the group said in a statement.
The social media giant has been battling one of the biggest problems. Since former employee Frances Haugen leaked internal. Audit reports that show that executives knew their sites could be dangerous, leading to the US regaining control.
- ‘Metaverse’ –
Reports from the US news agency have used those documents to produce a host of bad news. Including accusing Zuckerberg of his platform bending to regional censors. And highlighting how it helps increase anger in the name of keeping users trapped.
Facebook noted in a file that since September it had been “subject to investigation. And government requests” relating to leaked documents to lawmakers and regulators.
