MESSI AND MBAPPE WORK TOGETHER FOR A BEAUTIFUL GOAL!
Pep Guardiola knows how to get the most out of a young Lionel Messi.
it appeared on Tuesday that he had figured out how to halt an aging one as well.
But Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s greatest concern was that Paris Saint-new Germain’s superstar would be capable of creating that one moment of genius when the teams met in the Champions League.
The former Barcelona great had ambled about Parc des Princes for 70 minutes in his debut European outing for his new team.
As City circulated the ball around him in search of an equalizer after Idrissa Gueye’s eighth-minute score. Messi appeared disoriented and out of sync with his teammates.
Then something happened.
With 15 minutes remained, Messi burst into life, running with the ball for the first time in the game before exchanging passes with Kylian Mbappe and curling a magnificent strike into the roof of the net.
It was a brilliant moment
the highlight of an excellent game. It was the 34-year-first old’s goal for his new club, but it was his 121st in the Champions League and his 27th in 35 outings against English teams – 15 more than any other player.
And it demonstrated why Guardiola has referred to him as a genius and the best player of all time on numerous occasions.
They had chances, not the least of which was hitting the crossbar twice in as many seconds. First, Gianlugi Donnarumma expertly tipped Raheem Sterling’s header onto the underside of the bar, only for Bernardo Silva to fumble the follow-up.
But a moment of Messi magic snuffed out any hopes of a point.
PSG will leave the Parc des Princes confident they have found the missing piece to end their Champions League drought.
