App Library organizes apps on your Apple device so you know where and how to find them.
Tracking all the apps on your iPhone or iPad can be a challenge, but the App Library has made it easy. This feature allows your device to categorize apps into categories based on categories such as suggested apps, recently added apps, social media, entertainment, shopping, music, games, and more.
You can open the App Library with a simple swipe, then open a specific application in its folder, perform a proper app search, or browse all your apps in alphabetical order. Apps may be moved from the Application Library to the Home screen, or completely removed, but applications in the library cannot be moved from one folder to another. If you feel like an app has been categorized in the wrong folder, there is nothing you can do.
All in all, the App Library is a useful tool for managing your apps and finding the ones you need. It is especially useful if you do not plan your applications in different folders. Here’s how the feature works.
Update your iPhone or iPad
To use the App Library, you will need to upgrade your iPhone to iOS 14 or higher and iPad to iPadOS 15 or higher, if you have not already done so. On any device, go to Settings> General> Software Update. Your device will indicate that your software is up to date or notify you to download and install the latest version.
Open the Application Library
After updating your device, turn on the Home screen and swipe left until you hit the App Library screen. Here, you will find various folders with your apps neatly arranged and embedded in each based on the most appropriate category.
Some of the apps have large icons, while some of the games have small icons for four groups. You can open an app with a large icon by simply tapping it. For apps with thumbnails, tap anywhere in the quadrant for the four thumbnails to display a screen that shows all the apps in that category. From there, just tap the app icon.
If you have trouble finding an application, you can browse or search it. Swipe down on the App Library screen to view the alphabetical list of all the apps installed on the device. To quickly find a specific app, tap the right-hand character to see all the apps that start with that character.
Or, start typing the name of the app you want in the Application Library search area at the top to see compatible apps. Tap the app icon to launch the app.
Add Apps To Home Screen
You can add an app from the App Library to your home screen if it does not already exist. Long press on the icon to open the command menu, then press Add to Home screen. The app icon appears in the next free space on your home screen but also stays in the Library.
Another way to move apps is to hold the app until all the icons start to move. A home screen will then appear, allowing you to place the icon in the correct location. You can also hold an icon from the Home screen and select the Edit Home Screen command menu to make all applications move.
Delete or Delete applications
To uninstall an app on the Home screen, press down on the icon and then click Uninstall an application in the popup menu. Then you are asked if you want to uninstall the app or move it to the App Library. Tap Delete app, then select Delete from home screen.
You can remove any application from the library by pressing its icon. Tap the Delete Application to uninstall it and confirm the removal. Note that this does not just remove the application from the Application Library; uninstalls the app completely, so beware of this option.
Set Where Resources Are Downloaded
If you want to control where new apps are installed, go to Settings> Home Screen (or Home Screen and Dock on iPad). Under the Downloaded Applications section, select Add to Home Screen to add new apps to both the Home Screen and App Library. Tap Application App Only to add new apps to the Application Library but not your Home Screen.
Under the Notification badges section, you can enable Display in the App Library. To change the notifications you see while in the Library.
